Weighted workouts for stronger bones
Dr. Kahn's secret? Adding a little resistance to daily activities. She dons wrist and ankle weights, as well as a weighted vest, for a boost that's been proven to prevent osteoporosis and muscle loss.
Women typically reach peak bone mass by age 30, after which bones gradually weaken and become more brittle. Weight-bearing exercises, like power lifting or strength training, can help maintain that density. And even smaller, calculated moves – like Dr. Kahn popping on her weights while blow-drying her hair – can make a difference.
